New Year’s Eve in Margaret River

If you’re lucky enough to spend New Year’s Eve in Margaret River, you’re in for a treat. The region has that perfect blend of coastal calm and festive energy — where beach picnics meet boutique cocktails, and the last sunset of the year feels just a little more golden. Whether you’re after a chilled family evening or a night out with friends, Margs offers a bit of both: laid-back, local and effortlessly beautiful.

Family-Friendly Fun

  • Last Sunset at Surfers Point – My personal fav as I started this tradition when my first bub was born. Pack a picnic, a blanket, and your favourite people to watch the final sunset of the year over the waves. The energy is calm, happy, and perfect for families or anyone wanting to slow down and take in the moment.

  • Play at Doust Corner – Let the kids burn off some energy or just stretch their legs after pizza or a picnic. It’s a simple, local stop that keeps the evening fun without fuss. Sons of Naples and Burger Baby are right there if you forget the picnic accidentally on purpose! (whoops)!

It’s all about relaxed vibes and coastal magic — no big crowds, no stress, just good company and a stunning view to finish the year.

Where to Eat (or Grab Takeaway)

Margaret River’s food scene shines even brighter on New Year’s Eve — from casual pizzas to elegant dinners. Just make sure to book ahead, as most venues fill up fast!

  • Sons of Naples – Your go-to for wood-fired pizzas and Italian classics. Perfect for takeaway or a relaxed sit-down meal before heading into the night.

  • Swings & Roundabouts Taphouse – Share plates, pizzas, and a buzzing, friendly atmosphere right in town.

  • Morries – A little fancier, with delicious cocktails and small plates in a lively setting — ideal for couples or groups wanting a more polished evening.

  • Miki’s Open Kitchen – A refined Japanese-fusion experience that’s always in demand — think delicate flavours and thoughtful presentation.

  • Normal Van – For something laid-back and local, grab a takeaway and enjoy it picnic-style under the stars or pull up a high chair and people-watch the main strip as everyone starts to head out.

    For The Older Kids

After dinner, keep the night rolling at some of my absolute fav spots for a cheeky Cocky T

(a cocktail! What were you thinking!?)

  • Pearl’s Bar – A relaxed lounge with a coastal vibe, perfect for a cocktail or two. A tantalising cocktail list and wines from near a far.

  • Rhum Burgundy – Smooth beats, excellent drinks and a cosy, intimate atmosphere — a favourite among locals.

  • Yonder Bar – It’s known for well-crafted cocktails, beers and a playlist that leans to retro  throwbacks.

A Few Friendly Reminders

  • Book early — restaurants fill up quickly over the holiday period.

  • Plan your driver — if you’re heading out for drinks, make sure someone’s the designated driver or pre-book a local taxi.

  • Pack layers — even summer nights in Margs can get cool by the coast.

  • Soak it all in — however you celebrate, there’s something special about ending the year surrounded by surf, sunsets and good food and great friends.

    Start the New Year Slow

After a big night — or a peaceful one — ease into New Year’s Day the Margs way: a beach walk, a dip in the ocean, and a coffee from your favourite local café. Whether you’re heading for a swim at Gnarabup, or grabbing brunch in town, there’s no better way to welcome 2026 than with sandy feet, salty air and a fresh start in Margaret River.
