5 of our Favourite Winter Spots in Margaret River Region

5 of our favourite winter spots in Margaret River

Margaret River is the ideal destination for a winter escape. Whether you’re visiting from Perth, interstate, or overseas, you’ll find no shortage of ways to spend your days – from wholesome outdoor adventures and scenic walks to world-class wineries and cosy local experiences

Wineries

What’s a trip to Margaret River without a visit to one of the many wineries we have on offer?! Can you believe there are over 200 wineries in the region, with 90 of these offering cellar doors. A day spent winery hopping is the perfect way to spend a wintery or rainy day in Margs. You’re guaranteed a warm, cosy setting - paired with a glass of delicious red and a cheeseboard, the perfect way to warm up. Some of our personal faves are Walsh & Sons, LS Merchants, and Hay Shed Hill

Op Shop in Witchcliffe

Witchcliffe or as the locals like to call it, “Witchy” is a town just 10 minutes south of Margaret River. Witchy is filled with old charm, and has a bunch of secondhand and trinket stores! You will find yourself getting whisked away in the nostalgia of all the beautiful pieces they have on offer. Think – crochet artwork, blue willow ceramics, and so much more! The flying wardrobe is our personal favourite.

Caves

Just south of Margaret River, from Forest Grove and further on, you’ll find a series of incredible limestone caves that make for a perfect winter adventure. Jewel Cave and Mammoth Cave are two of the most impressive, both in size and natural beauty.

Daily guided tours take you deep underground, winding through huge chambers filled with delicate formations and sharing the fascinating history written in the rock over thousands of years. There’s something pretty surreal about heading below the surface and discovering this quiet, ancient world that feels a little magical.

Boranup Forest

Just further south of Forest Grove is the Boranup Forest. Imagine trees as tall as giants, over 60m tall, with the peaceful chirping of birds. This forest is another magical gem in the region that is a must visit. There are various trails that take you through the forest, where you can discover all the other beautiful wildlife and nature this place has to offer.

Margaret River Coastline

The Margaret River coastline stretches for over 200km and is famously home to some of the world’s best surf breaks. Even if surfing isn’t your thing, it’s still the perfect place for a swim, a sandy beach comb, or a slow wander along the shore.

Along the coast you’ll also find plenty of relaxed cafés, bars and food trucks dotted throughout. One of our favourites is White Elephant in Gnarabup - a great family spot with the beach right out front. Or head to the Prevelly General Store for a coffee and a pie while you watch the surf roll in.

You’ll also usually find a line-up of delicious food trucks at Surfers Point in Prevelly from Thursday through to Sunday nights.
